Romeo Juliet deals with a love story between the lead protagonists that ends tragically. It is a very simple romantic drama that ends in death and despair. There are three main aspects that lead to this destruction. These are fate(the primary factor), their feuding families who refused to compromise till the end and the last factor being the nurse who betrayed her friend Juliet.

“A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life” is what the writer says about their fate (Romeo & Juliet,pg.2, Prologue, l.6). Fate singularly plays a large part in bringing about the death of these two lovers. It is almost as if these two young people in love were destined to die by the stars, to bring the feud between the two families to an end. As the poet tells us “Doth with their death bury their parent’s strife”. (Romeo & Juliet, Prologue, l.8). The hand of fate can be seen right from the moment in the masquerade party where Juliet falls in love with the masked Romeo. If she had known who was behind the mask, it may have been that she would never have loved him. From here fate takes its own course and shows us that what ever is pre destined will happen and nothing can be done to prevent or stop fate. The prologue also speaks of the same thing “The fearful passage of their death marked love”. (Romeo & Juliet, pg.2, Prologue, l.9). The two feuding families of Romeo and Juliet made the young couple keep their marriage a secret. The enmity between the two families were so great that even the servants hated each other. Since the couple knew the parents would never accept their marriage they turned to other friends who in turn gave them wrong advice or betrayed them. The nurse was another an important factor whose betrayal proved fatal. She betrayed Juliet at the most crucial moment by leaving her alone when her support was most desired. All these factors will have to be considered when writing a Romeo and Juliet essay.
