Essay on Sunburn
Sunburn is a another word commonly used for the marked erythema and pain that commonly follows a lot of sun exposure. A sunburn is really a delayed ultraviolet B-included erythema caused by an increase in the blood flow to the affected skin that begins about fours and peaks between 8-24 hours following exposure. This is a vascular reaction caused b direct and indirect damage to specific cellular targets from photochemical reactions and the generation of reactive oxygen species. Damage to DNA, and the activation of several inflammatory pathways, are thought to trigger this reaction. The development of erythema therefore implies that enough ultraviolet damage has occurred that inflammatory pathways have been activated. Erythema is probably the best thought of as a total failure of sun protection, and is a marker for severe UV damage.

Several lines of evidence suggest a relationship between erythema and DNA damage. Sunburn can be viewed as a marker for a substantial ultraviolet over-exposure that leads for skin cancer. Severe sunburn can also lead to melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancer. While erythema-producing exposures probably are especially harmful, there is no particular reason to believe that non-erythrogenic exposures are safe. We see that sunburn is especially painful and may lead to bigger problems such as skin cancer. The best way to prevent sunburn and eventual skin cancer is to use a high dosage of sun screen. Other methods of prevention include sunglasses, to protect the eyes, layers of clothes, or just not to sit in the sun for a long time. It has not been proven that sunburn can lead to tanning as some people believe.
