The Bridegroom is a short story depicting the unfair treatment towards women. This story starts out by describing a woman who has disappeared and has obviously witnessed something horrible. She is afraid to tell anyone because she is a girl and it is obvious that no one will believe her. So, she concocts a plan and explains to everyone in the town that she had a strange dream. The people, obviously fascinated by her strange dream, listen to what she has to say. When she ends her story, she accuses her rich, would-be bridegroom of murder, and it is apparent to everyone that he was responsible for the death of a young lady. This story s main focus is the injustice of society towards women, and the overwhelming power of the rich.

The short story “Carnal Knowledge”, by T. Coraghessan Boyle, is the story of one man’s inner conflict between his lust for a beautiful activist, and his own convictions. Despite his lack of interest in Animal Rights issues, he finds himself embroiled in a steadily escalating fight for its cause. This struggle exists not because of any moral obligations, however, but to win the respect of his dear Alena, who personifies the saying: "Love me, love my cause". Because of the internal clash of interest, the story absolutely drips with irony. It is this irony that draws me to the story. Through this ironic conflict, the author defines the main character, moves the plot through its most significant actions, and develops the theme of the danger present in trying to share others ideals in order to gain acceptance.

Emphysema-Emphysema is a disease that causes the alveoli (the tiny air sacs where the air meets the blood in your lungs) not to work properly. This means not as much oxygen can get into the blood of the person, and it makes breathing difficult. Because the blood isn't getting as much oxygen as it is supposed to, the body cells aren't getting the oxygen they need to release the energy in food. A person with emphysema can't exercise at all, because the lungs aren't able to supply enough oxygen. A person with severe emphysema can't even go for a walk without running out of breath.

There is half a million tons of hazardous waste per year in the US. The military is the largest producer of it. Fourteen thousand four hundred military sites are now officially recognized as toxin contaminated, making the U. S. military the country’s leading “Earth Abuser”. The military now directly manages about twenty-five million acres of public land and “borrows” around eight million more from agencies such as the U. S. Forest Service – which allows one hundred and sixty-three military training activities in fifty-seven national forests, involving three million acres. Which raises the question: How respectfully does the military treat the land they manage? Not too carefully at all.

Many of us have common household chores. Some more than others; we have some we absolutely hate, and some we don’t mind. A common household chore I hate is cleaning up and doing the dishes after supper. Although my sister Emily and I rotate this harsh act every other night I am always trying to finagle her into doing it for me. To me doing the dishes is a form of punishment that no one should have to endure.

At least 50% of all adults and children are exposed to a psychologically traumatic event (such as a life-threatening assault or accident, humanmade or natural disaster, or war). As many as 67% of trauma survivors experience lasting psychosocial impairment, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); panic, phobic, or generalized anxiety disorders; depression; or substance abuse.(Van der Kolk, et al, 1994) Symptoms of PTSD include persistent involuntary re-experiencing of traumatic distress, emotional numbing and detachment from other people, and hyperarousal (irritability, insomnia, fearfulness, nervous agitation). PTSD is linked to structural neurochemical changes in the central nervous system which may have a direct biological effect on health, such as vulnerability to hypertension and atherosclerotic heart disease; abnormalities in thyroid and other hormone functions; increased susceptibility to infections and immunologic disorders; and problems with pain perception, pain tolerance, and chronic pain.(Fesler, 1991) PTSD is associated with significant behavioral health risks, including smoking, poor nutrition, conflict or violence in intimate relationships, and anger or hostility.

Nazis, National Organization for Women, National Association for the Advancement of Colored people and even the Ku Klux Klan, may not seem to have much in common; yet they all share a common goal or interest. All these organizations are a part of different social movement or large groups of people who are organized to resist or promote social change. Why do people join social groups? What exactly draws all kinds of different individuals into forming a unity or a common alliance based upon a single idea? How many different types of social movements are there? To answer these questions an in-depth look is required either via the symbolic interactionalist viewpoint or the functionalist so that we may better understand the whole rationality of social movements.

Bruce Dawe, an Australian poet, has written the poem 'Genesis'. The poem compares the beginning of school to Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden, hence the title 'Genesis'. Dawe has put the context of the poem into a modern day theme. Using the comparison of Adam and Eve's loss of innocence, he describes how the innocence of children is lost at school. This correspondence to the story of God expelling Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden because they had eaten fruit from the tree of knowledge. In the poem 'Genesis', children are expelled from innocence into the harsh realities of the world by partaking of the tree of knowledge - education at school. Dawe has used various techniques to convey his message across.
