Method of Evaluation of GMAT Essays

GMAT essays are evaluated by an E-rater, a computer program, and a human GMAT Grader. The marking is on a scale of 0-6 and if the scores are within one point of each other the average of the two are taken as the score. If the marks differ by more than on point then a third reader, a human GMAT Grader marks the essay to resolve the dispute. The computer program, the e-rater analyzes the creative writing, syntax and structural features while GMAT graders evaluate the ideas and the ability to analyze and organize the thoughts as well as skills of expressing the ideas clearly.

Only way to get high marks for the GMAT essays is to practice with old GMAT essay questions. The time allocated for one essay is thirty minutes, and students must time their practice sessions as well. Reading good essay examples on the GMAT essay prompts is also useful.
