A Step By Step Guide To Writing A Cover Page

Writing a cover page for a college essay is the easiest part in writing the essay. Though easy, it is an integral and important part of the whole essay. This is the page which a person about to read the essay will notice first and as often said “the first impression is the last impression”. So it is absolutely necessary to create a good first impression by preparing a perfect title page.

The most important thing about a cover page is that it should be error free or else it will create a negative impression in the reader’s mind. Even if the main essay is well written and well researched with correct references and citations the whole effect would fall flat if the title page is not proper and well done.

Here are some guidelines as to how to write a correct cover page

1.Formatting for the entire page should be in any standard format like the Times New Roman or Arial and the font size should be in 12 point except the main title which has to be in a larger font size. There should be a margin of 1 inch all around the paper as is the norm.

2.Title should be written half way down the paper and at the centre of the page. It should be well thought and so chosen that it correctly describes the written article. It should be in bold and capital letters. Subtitles if any should be in smaller font but in the same format as the title. In case the essay format is in APA style one must include a concise or short title and page number at the upper right hand corner of the page. However regarding the title it is advisable to follow the instructor’s guidelines as it may vary from person to person.

3.After the title the name of the writer needs to be given. The full name must be written. Abbreviations and nicknames are not advisable at all and it should be in proper alignment with the title format.

4.After the writer’s name will come the instructor’s name, the course name followed by the name of the university or college.

5.After this information the date of submission of the project needs to be written preferably in a long form.

The entire page must be computer generated in a standard white 8.5 by 11 inch paper and double spaced. Not much design or graphic work should be done on this page. It should be neat, clutter free and have a professional look and if a perfect cover page is created it will inspire the reader as he moves ahead and reads the main article.
